Abstract. Digital image acquisition and processing have been widely used on optical microscopy. Generally, a NTSC commercial camera and framegrabber are used for performing image acquisition and A/D conversion. This work proposes a low cost image acquisition for optical microscopy applications, the SAIMO. SAIMO is a hardware and software image acquisition system. The hardware is based on a webcam image sensor and the software acquires microscopic images performing the preprocessing and grouping images.
